Autumn Vibes
It's been a hot minute since we created a blog-post so we thought we'd come back with a big Junkbox HQ roundup of Spooky Season (aka Autumn)
Although we're all sunshine kids here we do love a lil taste of the cosy & creepy vibes October has to bring.
The glaringly obvious point here is that it's Horror Movie Season!!! And no-one loves a horror movie more than us (casual FYI, horror movies are for life not just for Hallowe'en!)
So, "What's your favourite Scary Movie?"...
Tough question, we know! So how's about a list of some of our favourite scary movies (honestly, this list is not exhaustive & there's no particular order, it's just a list of decent all-rounders of the Horror genre)
Scream // 1996. Slasher. In fairness the whole franchise is ace! Teen horror at its best. 6 movies in & still going. Good for a fun night with friends.
Hereditary // 2018. Psychological/Supernatural. Wooooaaaahhhhh there! First movie in a long time that left me open mouthed for at least 20 minutes. It's actually really scary.
A Classic Horror Story // 2021. Suspense. Does what is says on the tin. Full of Classic Horror tropes with an awesome twist.
Halloween // 1978. Slasher. My gateway into the Horror genre. It's a classic, good old spooky vibes. The original is by far the best!
Carrie // 1976. Supernatural. One of Stephen Kings best! And John Travolta's first movie role. High school bullies aren't the scariest thing. Featuring one of the most iconic scenes in a horror movie.
Silence of the Lambs // 1991. Psychological/Thriller. The loose references to real-life serial killers give this another layer of creepiness. Great characters make for a real intense scare.
Talk To Me // 2022. Supernatural. One of the best horror movies of recent years. Not completely groundbreaking but a really interesting take on the whole 'possession' vibe. Plus some grim grim scenes!
Paranormal Activity // 2007. Supernatural. The original is one of the best 'haunting' movies about. It's low budget but that adds to the tension & realness of it.
The Blair Witch Project // 1999. Found Footage/Supernatural. The OG of found footage. Almost unscripted with an unknown cast. Still terrifying now & I know so many people who swerve the forests at night because of this movie!
X // 2022. Slasher. (See also Pearl 2022 & MaxXxine TBC) The new Queen of Horror Mia Goth is just wonderful. Weird & wild it's an interesting new franchise to get into.
If you're not into the whole Scary Movie vibe but you want to embrace Hallowe'en & all it's spookiness then we have a few more recommends...
Our usual go-to is Alton Towers Scarfest! All the extra decor & spooky add-ons like The Haunted Mansion make for a much more exciting trip than the rest of the year.
For those who really enjoy the whole 'interactive' experience then you'll LOVE Farmageddon! With a whole bunch of different themed scare houses AND a war zone this will tick every box.
Then, for a fun/silly mates night how about a Fancy Dress Emo Anthem night? Don your best Hallowe'en fancy dress & throw some shapes to songs your teenage self had on repeat for months! We'll be checking out The Live Rooms Black Parade Halloween special!
Then, I guess if fancy dress isn't your style or you don't wanna go Alton Towers in your undies then you might want some outfit recommendations...
We do love to get layering here at Junkbox HQ so if your Autumn wardrobe needs a little update then we've got you!
From your daily commute & woodland walks to movie nights & trick or treating we'll keep you wrapped up warm!
Finally all these things are no good without getting the real 'taste' of Autumn. Yes, I'm sorry, we are Pumpkin Spice fans!!!
It's the obvious choice for all your Spooky daytime activities but when the darkness creeps in it's definitely Red Wine time right?!!?!??!?! 😉
After all this it would seem like we are Autumn folk after all!
Happy Spooky Season y'all 🍁💛
